I'm trying to inlay a pattern into the top of a dome, the pattern has been cut out and now I need to create a hallow for it to fit in, confrom to the shape of the dome. Any hints?

Yes, conforming vectors with a path to route the piece out as spelled out in this video (using coreldraw)
http://www.carvewright.com/2010CWweb/learn/videotips/feb11tips.php
(the top one, pocket cutting tips part 2 -)

If you use coreldraw, the dxf importer, and conforming vectors you can accomplish what you are trying to do.

If you do not have coreldraw and the dxf importer, let me know and I can make you the pattern tonight, but you will still need the conforming vectors add on to make my pattern work.

That's how I would do it to make the hollow take on the shape of the cone

Can't use conforming vectors, the pattern is the outline of another pattern, not a vector graphic.

Yes, how did you get there, I tryed every possible combination of merge.

Open the MPC I made; you need to set the carve region, then invert it and set the Merge function to Subtract. It works every time. You still have a dome in that carve region.

And it did, haven't carved it yet, but playing with it in the editor I can't see where changing the depth of the cut changes the hollow, could just be a fault of the software and it will carve the right depth. We'll see tonight..

Slick BJB. I'm impressed by something new here every day.
