I just wanted to say Happy Veterans Day to all of my sisters and brothers out there who are serving, have served or will someday serve. I want to thank everyone that didn't serve for supporting us in our mission to keep America the greatest nation in the world.

To the World War II (1939-1945) vets I say Thank You so very much ... both of my grandpas served, their plane left the states going two different directions.

To veterans of the Korean War (1950-1953) I want to say ... No you are really not forgotten and no you didn't fight the "Forgotten War" ... .

To those brave men and women who served in the jungles of Viet Nam (1960-1975) I want to apologize and say welcome home ...

To the vets who served in Grenada and Panama ... Hoooorah ....

To the American soldiers who served in the original Gulf War the "Persian Gulf War" (1990-1991) ... "It doesn't take a hero to order men into battle. It takes a hero to be one of those men who goes into battle." Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf

To all of the Military men and women still serving in Afghanistan (CarveWright owner SSgt. David J. Wert), Iraq, and elsewhere around the world ... protecting us and keeping the wolves at bay I say THANK YOU. To all of those serving in a support capacity I say THANK YOU ... .. THANK YOU!

In this "down turned" economy we may sometimes think differently, we may doubt Her greatness, we may take her name in vain, but America still stands for everything that is good in the World. We, Americans, are the greatest nation in the world and the American soldier is what keeps it that way.

Politicians, football coaches and even the St. Louis Cardinals come and go but the one constant for over 200 years has been our military protecting our borders.

If you see a Soldier in Uniform, notice someone wearing a Hat, a T-shirt, notice a sticker on the window of a car ... take a minute and say Thank You ... you will make an old veterans day!

Again to all VETERANS ... I snap to attention and solute you.

To all my fellow vets_we all know to well what the cost of freedom is.

Never will those day leave are
minds, it was not a TV screen it was real life for us.

My heart goes out each day for those of us that never were able to come home. Our home the Great USA.

Even as we age we still stand fast to stand our ground and hold our flag and freedom high.

God bless us all and this land we know as home.

Some have Applebee's, Golden Corral, Car Washes, to get their freebies. But, here in Warsaw on Veteran's Day, you receive Respect and Honor. The Day starts around 0800hrs at the High School where the drive is lined up with American flags..Dressed up students direct you to park at the front of the school and to the entrance are also flags leading the way. Other dressed up seniors are at the front door opening it for all veterans. Students greet you upon entering and escort you to a table in the gym. Other seniors then serve you with coffee and then breakfast consisting of eggs, sausage, biscuits & gravy, and orange juice. Once finished all Junior High and Senior High school students along with 2 bus loads of elementary students enter the auditorium and are seated. The American Legion Present the Colors, all recite the Pledge of Allegiance. The school District Superintendent, Air Force veteran Dr. James Haley, welcomes all. The High School Band plays, "God Bless America", and Science Teacher, Army veteran Mr. David See reads a message. Songs are sung and then the featured speaker, Navy veteran and 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Laura Smith gives her moving speech to students and veterans. After that the "National Anthem" and another song. Then the Women's choir sings, " Salute to Armed Forces", where each veteran stands during singing of their branch anthem! Once completed with great applause from all students closing remarks are made by National Honor Society President Brandon Roellig.
No, we don't have things like the big city does down here in a small town. We have a newspaper where kids are on the front page with their first deer kill and their big grin. We have Honor and Respect.
