Does any one have or have used a Craftsman Router Crafter? What's the deal with them? I just now discovered them. It looks like something that would work to make a dowel for the dowel jig. I have a line on one for $30.00 but I saw one on Ebay go for over $800.00.

I have a RouterCrafter and it would make the dowels. $30.00 seems like a decent price but if somebody paid $800.00 they need to check their medications. Unless it came with a 750 dollar router and bits.
If you get it and need a copy of the manual let me know.

Thanks, jiml.
There are a couple more on Ebay and one is already over $200.00. Now I am really anxious to get mine and see what is going on.

I'll see if I can find it..... somewhere around my office I've got plans to build something very similar to this. It does the rope and cross grooves as well as tapers.

Try building something like this. It looks like it would work better than the Router Ctafter. You could cut the gears with the CarveWright.

That's a lot of work to make that unit; I started it a few months ago. I have the Gear MPC's made and working on the glue up of the boards. (I am making them with 1/4 inch thick lumber with the grain at 120 degrees apart (3 ply)). I started working on a new CNC unit with the frame made like my REVO Legacy unit. Hope to get all that done by spring.
I go in for Cataract Surgery the 14th of November on my left eye and the right eye a week later, I hope I don’t go blind.

The numbers on the indexing gear, I made that with a type font.

I have a router crafter that I haven't played with since about three years ago. I made some table legs and a few "Sticks". I still have two of those sticks, so I will post pic's of them. One (cedar) was topped with a hand carved Ball and Claw, and the other (Pecan) was topped with a crystal ball. They were just something to do at the time... The Router Crafter is a lot of fun, and it would make large dowels easily.

If we had more control of the cutter head on the CW , we could use jigs like the router crafter in it. We would need to be able to manually move the head up and down, with the motor running, or be able to create a program that would keep the head in one position, move up and down then be able to run the length of the project and repete several times for flutes. Instead of the crank , you could add a low rpm motor The repete function is there , it just doen't work for mpc type projects.
