Really need some help making a pattern

Can anyone make a carvable pattern out of these two jpgs? I've got a woman that wants a couple of projects
made up using these jpgs of her dogs. I've spent umpteen hours trying and I can't make anything work. Either the
eyes bulge out or the poor critter's are flat with no depth at all.4861048611

Black area always carve deeper. When I had a white dog to do I resorted to a little homemade play dough balls placed statigically and let the paint solve the problem

do you have the pattern editor? In that case you can use the magic wand to select the eyeball and either lower it or invert it
