The baseball bat was cut from the 2" poplar dowel I found at Lowes.

Just today I was at Home Depot and found another 2" dowel. I am not sure what type of wood it is. It just said "hardwood dowel", so for $7.93 I decided to give it a try. It cuts very nice. The poplar cuts nice but sure makes a mess and clogs up the dust collecter with the shaveings. This hardwood dowel I cut the R2D2 with cut real clean and did not make much mess at all.

Great job, just a thought but isn't the closet rods at HD and Loews 2inch wood and and about 5 to 6 foot long?

Mortan,

Wonderfull job on the base ball bat.
How long was the carve on the bat?
How are you going to finish the bat?

Thanks everyone. It took about 3.5 hours to carve. I used the full 12 inches, and went to .75 deep.
I will probably just clear coat or maybe some kind of glaze. Finishing is not my strong point.
