can someone make a pattern from this picture please. thank you

edzbaker

tjl232,, that is a VERY SMALL picture. Someone might be able to make a pattern of it if it were MUCH larger. A good rule of thumb is, The greater the picture resolution, the better the pattern.

I am not a pattern maker, but I think those who make good patterns will tell ou the same thing. You need a BIG Clear picture.. also JPG is not a god format to work with.

tjl232 Could you tell me if that's a photo, or a copy. It look like it is distorting some ? Capt Barry

it appears to be a scan from a magazine... perhaps the online version of the magazine has a better picture? That one is really too small/grainy to work with easily

I'm embarrassed to even post this, but here is what I could get from such a grainy/small pic. I hope it helps.

Are you looking for a KW tan truck in general or are you looking for the Eagle Tank Line truck specifically?

Man, I wish I had time right now to work on it but I just got back from a weekend away and have about the busiest next two weeks possible... if anyone else can step up that'd be great because it will probably be a while before I can

Sorry I can't help sooner,

I think a photo like this would have to be broken down into its basic parts to be carved into wood. It's pretty unlikely that your going to get the logo on the door and stuff like that. The grill on the front would have to be changed to allow for better carvability. Of caurse I'm talking about the truck only and not the trees and road unless you would want a line for the road under the truck. Might take almost an hour to do something like this.

Let me know if you want me to give it a shot tomorrow night.

Liked the truck concept, so here is a 3d model of the tanker part (not finished yet), have about 30 minutes into it so far. This may never be a pattern, with it being a true 3d. Hope to make the cab tonight, and of course the wheel wells on the trailer wheels.

This was done using Silo version 2.2

I was making a 2D pattern for this truck but you have upstaged me. And I hate to admit it but that is really nice work. You 3D guys are way far advanced over me. I wish I had the time and the money to get into the 3D programs. Ya that's really really nice.

Alan, continue to make the pattern for him. This will not be a pattern, or if I make it into a pattern it will be on my site for sale. I am making this, well because I like modeling, and the tanker truck looked interesting. I am not using any image, just going by visions in my head of what I want it to look like. Such as this image I added the fenders and hoses. It looks like I will be spending a lot of time on this model now, adding the details, which takes some doing.

John, Doug and Alan thanks for the comments.

EDIT: Alan, you have done great work using PS and creating patterns, I have been impressed and following your tutorials, and hope to use them when you have finished.

Yes, I will finish it up and post it tomorrow.

Just hang in there tjl232, we'll get this done for you soon enough.

Eddie, that is cool looking. I didn't really "hate to admit it" when I said you do nice work. I always try not to joke around but sometimes I can't help it. Sorry I'll work on that. Can I count on you fellow forum members to call me out on that?

And the tutorials I make on GIMP http://forum.carvewright.com/forumdisplay.php?98-3rd-Party-Software (Free Plug) are for making raster graphics which many people on the forum may want to look into. I just try to do my part in promoting Carvewright.

Hi tjl232

It took a lot more than an hour but here it is. I tried to put as much detail in as I could. I think it turned out pretty good.

I have included a png file to view it and the ptn file that will open up right in your program if its on the same computer.

I hope it works out good for you.

Alan, that came out great. That truck is not an easy one to do.
I too have gotten a chance to work on the tanker I am creating. Still not finished, with 3 hours total on this one. Lots of details to add, bumper, mirrors, exhaust pipes, and so on. The cab is taking shape, still not sure how I want it to look when finished.

Great Job everyone! When I first saw the pic, the Original Poster had put up, I remember thinking.. "ya good luck with that".. Just no way someone could make a decent pattern with that. But now I will eat my humble pie and admit you all have far more talent than I can ever hope to acquire. It is awesome just watching you guys as you create these awesome patterns out of "thin air" it seems sometimes. Keep it up!

No its not easy to do trucks because of all the detail. Organic shapes are so much easier. I used to draw a lot of trucks for work when I did yellow page adds, but that was easy compared to making a height map.

The good thing about doing it in 3D, as you are doing, is that you can do a final output for carving in any position you want. You know there may be a lot of demand for trucks in the future.

I looked into Moi today and I didn't see many exmples of the kind of organic ornate applique type victorian designs that I think about making.

Here is one I made using MoI 3d. I carved really good. The first is the image I used and the second is an image from designer.

I remember the guy who was looking for help on that Luther Rose. I was one of the guys who responded to it also.

Here is the design I came up with for that. I use Adobe Illustrator with blends and then photoshop for layers and curves.

But yours looks deeper and better. Nice Job!

Yes he carved the rose and posted the carving here. I like your version too, it came out really nice.

See 3rd party software MOI3d, and the latest John posted of the ice cream cone. It is really good, and if the time comes you want to purchase Moi, contact John he sells it as a lower price.

That looks very nice. The back of the cabin looks kind of skinny though. I don't know how Moi works but what if you could just pull out the sides on the back of the cabin part. It would look tough if you did. But it depends on what angle you render it in though.

Alan

eelamb
10-26-2011, 03:44 PM
I agree, yes the cab is a little thin. This view is from designer. I just wanted to see what it would look like in designer. I would need to work on the fenders (thicken them up on the back), thicken the cab up some. But rest looks almost right. Oh this pattern is 10x3x.25

b.sumner47
10-26-2011, 07:48 PM
Great job on what you have. If you could look at a different angle, some how round the edges out, it may alter the look of depth. Capt Barry

eelamb
10-26-2011, 08:27 PM
Capt Barry, That was a quick one to see how it would look, plus to see what depth it could handle. The actual model is 10x3x3, so I was working in close quarters adding the details. When I have made it into the pattern I like (by slicing on angles, etc) I will post it. Sent the model to John and here is what he sent back to me. Now that is great rendering, Thank you john.

Eddie

I have a LONG way to go with rendering...modeling one thing rendering a whole other animal. I just made a quick video on slicing and projection master in zbrush..no audio but I know you will pick it up. Great to model in full 3d which is easier than trying to stay at relief depth from the get go sometimes...masking an projection are awsome to cut the model, put it on a plane sculpt, tweak, and smooth your tranisions after you made your model in full 3d.

BTW those quads were sure clean looking...it amazes me how well low poly models can look.

Alan you are welcome. Took the truck a little further, making 3 trucks from the first one. I plan to make another cab, a more modern one too.
