I want to experiment with replacing the y and z timing belts with small 3/16" roller chain. With good dust collection it should be possible to use chains. I also want to alter the bearing configuration in the drives. Instead of having the bearings so offset and under a torque load from the belts, I want to fix the shaft to the casing and move the bearings into the gears.

To do this, I need parts to cut up! Is there anybody out there who has old left over y and z gear boxes that I could have? I only really need the plastic gears to be good. The shafts and bearings can be bad.

I will happily pay for the parts, the shipping, and the handling.

I think this would put too much strain on the gears. The design for the Y gear bearing placement is already an unavoidable weak point. And I have heard of no problems with the current toothed belts. My openion - If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
