I have been playing around with my new Carvewright for 6 months and with all my research and playing I cannot figure out what the "height" is related to. When you put a pattern on a piece in the software the default is "100", and if you change it to "50" the pattern seems to shrink. But if you change it to "200" it doesn't seem to get any taller than "100". So whats the deal? is it percent? mm? mils? distance from the sun? what?

First welcome to the forum, I see it is your first post. The height is related to the surface of the board, where 999 is the surface and it goes deeper from there. Try placing a deeper pattern on the wood, make a recess of that depth, now place another pattern in the recess that is not as deep a carve.Change that to a higher height. To see the difference move your cursor around while watching the numbers in lower left corner to see the depth. Now change the height again and see the difference with each change.
See the tips and tricks it will explain it much better.

check page 70 of the software manual, it describes the depth as from the top of the board down and height is from the bottom of the depth back up.

Hello northey87,

Welcome to the LHR/CarveWright family.

The height setting seems to act like a fixed z scaling on raster not really effecting the depth but stretching or distorting the shape like in a bell curve, but when using the height setting on a merged raster will act as a sudo depth option.

In wood carving I kind of look at it as a relief setting ... the higher the number, the more relief.

In Lithopane carving I think as it as my contrast setting ... just my 2 cents worth.

Thanks for all the welcomes, I've been lurking around in here since I ordered my Carvewright back in Feb. I hope to be more active here as I learn.
