Carving question

I've had my machine for a week an have been playing with the software and can't figure out how to get raised letters on a piece of wood. Whenever I use text it feathers around the text but I'd like it to feather it to the edge of the wood. I've veiwed all of askbuds videos and sttill come up empty. I haven't even turned my machine on yet my dust collection system doesn't arrive until Wed. I gues you can tell who's the boss in my house.

Put a rectangle around it and apply Carve Region.
