My wife saw this one on a fence made out of stone and since I could not carve stone I tried
them in Cypress and Spanish Cedar. I call them jesus profile on the cross.
I want to thank eromran for editing an existing pattern for me.

Wow...very nice! I think you sold me on Spanish Cedar. I went to my local cabinet shop this morning to pick up some Alder, Maple and Birch. They had a few 1x8 boards of Spanish Cedar (actually it in the Mahogany family but named "Cedar" becasue of the aroma). I passed, but I think I'll go back and get some. Thinking it would make some beautiful decorative boxes!

Thanks Michael , I just wanted to led you know that this was last of the Spanish Cedar for me, because it is toxic. I have switch to some Andiroba. It looks and carves like
Spanish Cedar, I have had a few of my woodworking friends tell me of the possible problems with it. If you look it up it will give you the low down on the possible dangers
of being in a close area with the cedar.
Just thought I would let you and anyone else know.
Thanks again

Interesting choice of wood. Did the Cypress get real fuzzy?

Terry the wood was what I had in the shop, The cypress does very well when you have a large carving.
I brush down the wood ,with the grain, to get rid of the fuzzeys and the rub down the face with steelwool
before and after I put on a coat of outdoor Helmsman spar urethane, and then I rub the face down again with steelwool
after it has dryed. This give it a real shine.

Oh I also forgot to say I use a small brass welders brush to rub it down, this does well in small
areas and it does not scratch the wood.
