I borrowed this idea from a member of the Vectric forum.
What to do with scrap pieces of wood that none of us want to throw away.
This letter opener could be cut from a piece as small as 10x2x.75.
I cut this one from Red Oak.
I used Aspire to create the model.
Saved as grayscale and inserted into Designer, added the flower, a free model from VectorArt3D.
Used the same pattern for front and back with depth set at or near half the thickness of the material. Don't go past half the thickness or you will cut away to much.
I will share the file if any one is interested.

Thanks for looking.

Here is the MPC file I used to cut this project.
You will probably need to experiment with the depth setting. I cut this one at .37. It left a thin layer of material all the way around. If you go a little deeper it will cut clean around the blade, but still have support around the handle.

Have fun with it.

That is really nice ... it is always nice to see projects that serve a purpose.

It is nice to create something that is not "just to look at", even though that is not a bad thing. I have made some "wall art".
I like to tell people I create "functional art"

that is a project that you could make dozens of and never have 2 the same ... can anyone share the carve times.

The carve times for me is about 1 hour with the text and ptn on both side. Just remember you have to have confomring vectors
if you are going to put text on the blade.
