First of all: Happy 4th of July CarveWright Forum Family and Friends

We know that this has been attempted before. We think we have a new way of looking at it.

Each month we will host a “Carvers Contest” and it will work like this.

http://littleredwoodshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Recently-Updated16-3-300x110.jpg (http://littleredwoodshop.com/archives/2229/recently-updated16-3)

This contest is open to ALL owners of the CarveWright/Compucarve Personal Carving System

Step One: To enter you will purchase a Specific pattern … YES, everyone will be carving the same pattern. The price of said pattern will be $10.00, the money covers the design of the original pattern and your entry fee. You are automatically entered when you purchase the pattern. We promise to make them cool … wait until you see next months pattern.

Step Two: Carve and Finish the pattern as you see fit. We are making no suggestions here. One Note … you are not limited to just carving the pattern into a piece of wood … combine it with other patterns or as part of a larger project.

Step Three: Finish your project and email hi-res images to contest@littleredwoodshop.com (http://littleredwoodshop.com/archives/contest@littleredwoodshop.com) by midnight CST on the last day of the month.

Prizes: The prizes for each contest will be announced when the “Carvers Contest Project” is posted at the beginning of each month.

Rules: There are a few of them.

You may enter every month if you would like but may not win consecutive contests … you are not eligible to win the month after a win.
Carvings must be completed with a CarveWright or CompuCarve system
Entries must be received in our email box at contest@littleredwoodshop.com by midnight CST on the last day of the month
Prices will be mailed to the winner within 10 days of the judges decision … the judges are your peers
Winners will be decided by a vote at www.LittleRedWoodshop.com (http://www.LittleRedWoodshop.com) … voting will be open for 7 days.
You must be a member of the LittleRedWoodshop.com community ... Register here http://littleredwoodshop.com/register

Note: Each monthly winner will be entered into a final contest (once a year) your projects will be displayed at the CarveWright Conference and voted on by the conference attendees, if you are not attending the CarveWright Conference you may mail your entry. The prize for this contest will be Honor, Prestige and a prize to be announced at a later time (it will be something good).

OK, I'm in. Just tell me how to purchase the $10 pattern and I'll get started. I followed the link and the only thing that I could find was a $15 greyscale. I didn't see the pattern anywhere.

I'm not use to being online this time of day as I work best about midnight.... but I can't seem to find my way on the website to purchase this months star pattern. I can't log into the "store" as it asks for my e-mail address and password. But I can log into the site via the top of the page using my User Name and password. The question is "Do I have to set up a seperate account?"

Ok, I set up my registration for the store, dropped the pattern into the shopping bag, but could not find the option to "buy." The only option seems to be "continue to shop." Please point me in the right direction.

Make that three ... I have added the shopping bag in the right margin and at the bottom of the page ... also added the pattern on the opening page of the store.

that should make things a little easier, sorry, it is a test run ... we'll get it figured out

I am looking forward to seeing what people come up with and seeing them all at the conference next year ... I am not entering of course but I think mine is going to end up as part of a box project.

Thank you for your Help

It might be working for some people but not for me. I can not get anything to move/drop now and it says by shopping bag is empty. When I got as far the shopping bag an hour ago it said it would keep my selection for (I forget...but days). Going back now there is nothing there and like I said I can't get the image to drag. I'll try again later.

SharonB

Got into the shopping cart this time but the only options I see still "continue shopping" or "clear bag." If you click Open bag again it just recycles back to the same screen.

It actually went real smooth for me when I went back. It took me a bit to figure out what I needed to do but it is a "me" problem not the site I believe. Perhaps some kind of note at check out that explained exactly what you need to do to retrieve the pattern might be in order. I had to change my plans for the pattern when I got it down loaded as it did not reduce well to the size that I needed it for my original thoughts. But it is a nice pattern that I'm sure I'll use often.

The Legal is interesting... Could be a money maker for LRW...

Good Luck,

All the legal means is that LittleRedWoodshop owns the photographs that are submitted ... as for the projects, if you don't want to keep them for your own collection, donate them to a local charity or club. I think this months project would be a nice gift for a veteran or an American Legion or VFW hall.

Question the patterns each month will they be made by the same person or can other members submit ideals? Plus the $10.00 per pattern is it going to the pattern maker less the prize fee? Is LHR part of this contest or just ran by you and you buy the bit and store credit?

Yes I am looking for ideas for patterns ... yes I am splitting the fees with the artist ... no LHR has nothing to do with this contest, I paid full price for the bit and I am providing the store credit.

Jason:

JUST TO CLARIFY! This is store credit for your website store at www.littleredwoodshop.com , not LHR / CarveWright Store at www.carvewright.com, correct?

LittleRedWoodshop
07-01-2011, 05:38 PM
Yes that is outlined in the Rules .... it is an in store credit for MY store ... ....... ...

Digitalwoodshop

If the contest does not go live, can the guys that bought the pattern get any money back?

AL

LittleRedWoodshop
07-01-2011, 10:33 PM
If you read the rules they get the next months pattern for FREE, there are no refunds ... no I can't let people have a pattern and then give their money back and I really can't afford to give away a $50.00 bit.

The minimum number of 10 participants covers the cost a total of $100 ... half of the money goes to the artist and the other half will cover the bit. Still leaving me at zero + a $30 credit at MY store .... . So this has not been set up as a money maker ... it is just something fun to do. I am being as transparent as I can here ..... .. .. those are real numbers ...

I am really looking forward to seeing what people come up with and seeing who wins the big vote at the conference next year.

I’ve got my 2 great grand nephews and great grand niece up from Phoenix for the 4th so I carved up 5 stars and invited a friends 2 grand kids over to paint them up. They had a blast painting them up along with making some milk jug luminaries and got to take them home after the 4th. We even got all the paint cleaned up off of the deck from the wind gust that blew the paint tins off of the table.

Here's my contribution to the contest. There are a couple of things I'd do differently on the next one...1) I'd not invert the pattern, like the napkin holder, and not re-invert it to match the plate holder 2) maybe make the distance between the sides of the napkin holder slightly smaller 3) maybe make the plate holder slightly smaller as it kind of hides the 9" paper plates (great for the 12" plates).

That is one very fine clock. A clock is not an idea I would have thought to do with the design.... but it certainly turn out nice.

07-23-2011, 11:44 PM
Thanks for the compliment Sharon! I would have never thought of the plate and napkin holders and they turned out really cool. The clock was actually the third thing that I did with the design. The first was to be a part of a frame for a flag cabinet but the design did not reduce very well. The next idea was a sign but It didn't really turn out like I had hoped. I decided that the design needed to be much larger so the clock.
