i know engineers put this kinda stuff to keep us safe but is there really a need to have the cover on the machine. i like having it off cuz you can see better, clean it better and change bits easier. i was just wondering if the machine needs the shadow from the cover to see things better or something like that.

The only thing it does for me is it makes it just a little quieter, but not by much though. Of course it is there for safety reasons but you know how that goes.

Al will give you many reasons for having the cover on. I can only say I believe there is a chance the cut motor may come on, and you may be changing bits at that time, thus a real safety reason for having the cover on and switches active, not bypassed.

To each his own. My cover stays on but both switches are bypassed. I carve with one bit though and its the same project. So my bit is already installed before the machine is even turned on.

I run with the cover off but have a monentary foot pedal to cut motor power when changing bits. FYI.
