...but it is very special!
Well, the end of the school year is here (again) and my oldest son's teacher has not gotten a pen yet.
These are special as my son was very much a participant in each phase of the project-- from picking out the pen blank and kit to turning (actually using the tools on the lathe on his own-I was very close by but he drove by himself) After the turning he helped finish the pen and then pick out the wood (cedar) for the nameplate. He then helped pick out the dingbat and font for the name. He then watched and listened as I made the piece of cedar straight and square and then he helped load the project into the machine and pressed all the buttons on the CW. He then watched and listened while I planed and cut the plate down to size and then he used a handplane to make chamfers. He then finished it with shellac, glued the piece on, and (with assistance) clamped it in place. Oh yeah, and he's 9.
...anyway... can you tell I'm proud?
