This scrap piece of cherry was scheduled to be firewood at the next shop clean out. My granddaughter said she wanted a cribbage board with wolves on it so I went looking for a "Rustic" piece of wood. I'm glad I saved it now.

Nice job! Now I need to show your post to the better half. Maybe then she'll get off my back about all the castoffs I have laying around. She's been asking why I save them, and here's her answer!

Yep, you never know when an ol' piece of scrap full of bark and knot holes will come in handy.

Can you talk about how you sanded the carving?

Can you talk about how you sanded the carving?

It is pretty much how it came off the machine. I did 220 paper with the ol' index finger for about 30 seconds. Oh, and before the sandpaper I brushed the loose stuff off with a brass (or copper) brush. In the picture it has the second coat of laquer sanding sealer. I'll give it another light sanding before shooting the finish.

Hi Capt Barry. I'm not a cribbage player so I'm not sure what you are saying. I do know you need 120 holes per "Street" (LOL a term I just picked up) and one for the win. So I'm not sure what I'm missing.

Great Job on that board! Sometimes the old wood is the best, but you can't save them all.
