View Full Version : Cutout layers stack together. Dumb idea?

I was wondering if its dumb idea to slice a 3d model (lets say a figure) into 300 layers as thin as the plywood i'd be using, create a vector image out of each, and then cut each of them individually and glue them together to make a full statue out of the 3d model?

And if its not too dumb of an idea, what kind of material would be cheaper? Something that i could order in the hundreds of sheets with minimal cost?
Or maybe a long roll that can be fed to CW and then CW could cut it into equal rectangles ready for stacking and gluing?
What do you think? Any ideas?

Dennik,

I don't know how large a 3D figure you wish to end up with, but it sounds like you are contemplating way too many "thin" sheets and since cutting is the only vector you can do and vector would make lousy 3d in my opionion, understand that as long as there is no undercuting, you can CARVE up to one inch, so you could do your "sculpting" keeping those limitations in mind (I'd not use plywood, though) and then glue them together, sure.
