Here is a simple scroll saw type cut from Vectors. It has 3 birds in a tree with Vector Hearts. I just wanted to show that the DXF Importer can convert scanned scroll saw patterns and cut them out. I assigned the 90 Degree V-Bit for the details and the 1/8 Inch straight cutter for the cutouts. If I had one, I would use a finer straight bit for the cutouts with very shallow cuts. I assigned the board thickness to 1/4 inch so if you use my parameters you will have to laminate a 1/4 inch board on top of another board for the milling.

You can add small hooks for a earring hanger, etc. Add a simple base and small brass hooks and you have a nice little project for the wife! Have Fun!

Steve,

Great job on all of the vector patterns! Looks like you have been having some fun with them and thanks!

I just carved this pheasant a few days ago for our local Pheasant Forever chapters banquet. I put it on a clock face.

SteveEJ

Glad you like them. I was just able to buy the DXF importer. It does for the Carvewright what VCarve Pro does for other CNC machines.

GI for all.. The vectors can be re-sized and bits assigned to make the VCarves look how you want them. Put them on box sides or tops, etc.

Have Fun!

Thanks Sharon.

For those that are using a earlier version of Designer or do not have Conforming Vectors, Select the rectangular just inside the carve region and then set the depth to 0.4. You should then be able to see and carve the vectors.

Edit: Just thought I mention that Lynn has set up some new categories (http://forum.carvewright.com/forumdisplay.php?67-Pattern-Sharing)in the pattern sharing thread to try to keep patterns more organized. Might want to check them out if you already haven't.

Wierd....... I get a menu that pops up when I try the save as ... It states "the file can not be saved due to the following unlicensed features:" It then shows a LONG list of statements "Conforming Vectors". All of the vector lines also show up on the .mpg design. I found it wierd because I was able to save all the other vector .mpgs that were made with no problem at all. It's only this one tray mpg that I get this pop up message. Oh well.... I'll keep checking and see if I can figure it out.

Tips when carving the MPC's from Vectors:

1-MAKE SURE you review all of the bit assignments and have the bits assigned to the tool paths.

2-Review the cut depths and set a maximum depth per pass if necessary. You DO NOT want to put too much stress on the machine and bits! Damage could result.

3-Remember, these are VECTOR carves, like Centerline Letters, so the machine will mill them much faster than Raster relief carving! Because of this, they are not as detailed either. This does not mean they will not look good, just different! Adjusting the bit cut depth and bit used can make a big difference! Use designer and experiment.

Enjoy!

This is a MPC with Vectors imported with the DXF Import. It is a Border Art that can be overlapped to make trim of almost any length. This will carve like Centerline text and be much faster than raster carving. Play with it and see what the Carvewright can do! Enjoy!

Actually I have been very interested, please keep it up. I do have a question for you or if anyone else can answer. Can this POW-MIA be turned into a pattern. If so how do you do it. I want to put it on a clock but it would have to be resized. Seems like a pattern would make it easily resizable for different uses. Or is there a way to easily resize the whole thing? I looked at selecting all then looking for a way to resize but could not figure it out. Thanks again steve, these posts have been great.

Simply select the first item in the Carving List which includes all below. Then clicking and holding one of the four corner yellow triangles, move it toward the center and everything will be reduced in size together. Reduced size.

SteveEJ
02-27-2011, 11:55 AM
Greg,
Select all (Edit/Select all), then select one of the yellow diamonds in the corner, Holding down the left mouse button you can then re-size proportionally. After you re-size you then, while all still selected, can move the group where ever you want.

I re-sized and put the MIA MPC on a clock but there was little or no spacing on the line "YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN" so when I re-sized it really comes together like its all one word. Steve could you by chance put some spacing in there? Just wondering. Thanks.

42613

SteveEJ
02-27-2011, 04:56 PM
Can't be done easily. If you add space you would also have to rotate each word slightly. Try selecting each letter's parts and changing the bit depth to a lesser value. That will increase the spacing visually a little bit.

Added: you can use Designers built in text function and replace the vector letters with your own which would give you more control. That's what I would do..

I do like the clock design! Great job!

EDIT: Added new MPC with built in Designer Fonts.

Here is a Cribbage Board from Vectors that I converted. I replaced all of the peg circles with a Drill Path. I have no idea what the Peg dimensions are but I made the holes .2 inches across and .5 inches deep with .2 inches max per path. The rest of the VCarve is using the 60 degree V-Bit. You might want to tweek it a bit as my eyes were a bit gone after converting the holes manually. Enjoy! and Let us know how it carved!

Thanks for posting this terrific image of "Tthe End of the Trail," a sculpture by the great american artistt, James Earl Fraser. The statue stood at the enterance of Mooney's Grove Park in Visalia California where I grew up! Despite the size of the original, I remember my father hoisting me up on top of the horse behind the rider. Looking at the photo of the re-located statue where it now stands in Oklahoma City (with a full size copy still at the park) it is hard to beleive that he could get me up that high ... this is a huge statue! I'll have to check the family archives for a photo. Anyway, this is going to get carved and given to all of my relatives who are still in Visalia.

It is not that we don't want them to be able to open or view the 2.0, it is because 2.0 has a different programming foundation that 1.8x doesn't recognize.

LOL! or weekend. Keep it up Steve, these are awesome. I'm sure many people will download and use these on their projects. Much more useful then just saying "good job", but those words of encouragement are valuable, too.

LOL.. You folks are funny! I do like to learn as I go so not only is it good for others but good to me too! I won't be able to keep this pace up for much longer. I have another trip coming up to Tampa. If there are no negotiations soon that one will be cancelled and my keyboard might start smoking again!

Mouse. I must admit, most are free from net. I do edit some and assign some bits, depths, additional vectors to clean up the carve, etc.

3 computers on my desk make it a little cramped! lol

Thanks for the email Eddie!

Wow, Steve, you are not just posting quantity but quality too. I assume you are converting these from some other source. Mind if I ask where? Is there an internet repository of DXF files somewhere?

Dave,

Thanks for the comment! There is no one single repository. Wish there was! I just search for artwork while I am traveling and grab what I can. If one wants to look for brand name art 'BrandsOfTheWorld' is a great place. I also have tons of artwork that I have purchased over the years. I wish I could point you to one place but sorry there are TONS os places.

BTW, the bits assigned to any of the vector MPC's I posted can be deleted and/or altered any way someone wishes.

Side note: 'Yo Adrian! 800 Posts! and climbing!'

I may pass out!

I use the mouse when I am drawing the vectors, but change to the pen when I do editing or sculpting. I do not have the DXF importer, so not much use in making the vectors patterns for me.

Eddie,
You can still use the files I uploaded. Once they are vectors anyone can use them. Also, just remove the bit assignments and you will have a basic line drawing to work with. I can convert DXF's to vector drawings if you want. Email me the DXF and I can email back the vectors. It would save a lot of time rather than tracing.

Thanks Steve, I knew I could still use the patterns you made. I was just mentioning the fact I make so many vectors, some would look good as plain vectors. MoI3D has the ability to read and save as DXF. But I do not have the ability to import it to designer. Thanks for the offer, I may take you up on the conversion.
