Hi,
I am a newbie here and would like to know if it is possible to use my shop vac as a dust collector for my Carve wright. If anybody has done this, I would appreciate any tips you would like to pass on. Thanks, Michael

Bud is correct don't try a shop vac. attached are 2 pic of my system. The second pic is while the CW is running and there is very little sawdust.
I have it hooked up to my whole shop vac system and it keeps it very clean.
The Grizzlysystem I am using is large, but there smaller systems that is rated for long hour runs.
I have the DC collection system from Ringneck on my machine and it made all the difference in the world.
The more you get the dust out of the machine the less trouble you will with your machine.
Go to Grizzly.com and search G1163, this looks to be a little system that could fit anywhere and will do the job.

I agree 100% with these guys, I also run the ringneck vacuume attachment with a 3/4 hp 580 CFM vacuum.
Dan, do you think it would help if you had the top cover on or does it work better with it removed like you show it here? I also see you use tape on a section of your collector that is not being used, I take it you are try'n to create more vacuum over the area being cut, correct me if I'm wrong.

Jerry,

When I made the clip there was no way to get a clear shot with the top on so I removed it while I was running the camera. I put a temporary toggle switch on the cut motor side for safety and jumped the LCD side switch.

Yes you are right about the tape being on the collector. With a narrower board I restrict the nozzle to allow more suction where it is needed. Seems to work better to me.

Like others have posted the shop vac is not a good way to go with the dust collection. You will get some of the dust out BUT you are taking a big risk with the static created with the high volume of air.

Thanks guys for the positive feedback on the insert..[insert happy face]...

Just one more voice of a very satisfied RingNeckBlues collector user who tried to get by with a shop vac for the first couple months. This, or probably any other collector makes all the difference in operating and cleaning the CW, and thereby reduced maintenance needs. Don't wait, bite the bullet and cut the clear cover so you can really get rid of the dust at the source.

I also use RingneckBlues collectors on both of my CW's. Works great and very little dust left behind. A shopVac is only good for what falls on the floor.
He is also a wonderful help with questions. Thanks for all your help and support Floyd!!!
