Posted this in another thread, but I wanted to show it off a tad.

I was Da Man XMas Morning.

Thanks to Dan (PCW) and John (JPaluck) for the patterns.

Very nice.... but now please excuse my ignorance.... is that just a saddle stand? or does it serve another purpose?

Jerry,

Judging by the smile on her face, YOU DA MAN! Great job!

Just a saddle stand, but the "other purpose" are those brownie points.

Actually made it in two pieces so she can transport the goods in the back of the pickup.:)

Nice project any chance of getting some rough dimensions on it?

That is really cool Jerry, good job, and good thinking about making it into 2 parts.

Thanks, Joe.

I tend to "build as I go", so, no plans, but it's basically 30" high, 22" deep, and 18" wide.

Carved areas were made with good old 2x4's, edge glued. Bottom of the stand was made with 1x8, cheap white wood from Home Depot, and slats are 1x4's. I plugged all screw holes (over 100 of them) with plugs made from the 2x4 scrap, as that wood was redder than the white wood - sort of made it match, so to speak.

Finish was poly floor finish, 2 coats. Floor finish is, hopefully, harder, and hardier, than regular - we'll see.

Jerry,

I follow the same set of rules, build as I go...

Then once I get done, I try to retrace my steps and draw up plans. Never works though.

Jerry that is so nice did you use select pine or is it fir?

I bought 2 -1" by 12" by 8' select pine from Lowes and I couldn't believe how much each board cost! $29.00 for one board, I bought some 1'' oak cheaper!

So you are the man! Very talented and far better then anything you can buy!

Great Job! Was a good idea for the tac storage on the bottom. Should last as long as the leather!

Thanks Jerry.
I have been looking for a project that might sell in the area I live. Lots of horse people here so maybe something like that may work

Great project! Really looks wonderful and is something quite different than most of us would have ever thought of! Congrats for a job well done.

Jerry, the saddle rack came out great. I have two similar to that in shape, but no carving on them. Also nice saddle too, was that part of her gift too?

Oldjoe, unless the buyer keeps the saddle indoors or has a show saddle it may be hard to sell. When my wife had a tack store, only the folding metal conduit racks sold. That is why I have 2 wood ones left, and my saddle and the wife's sits on them, in the barn. I have built a new tack room to get the saddles and tack out of the barn but it is full of the kids stuff for now.
