If anyone have been breaking the 1/16th cutting bit using Steve Good key chain program which can be downloaded free at http://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/. I found a temp solution. I use a board thickness of .250 and set my depth in designer at .230, and then sand the extra .020 off. At least is working for me. I have a grizzly 12" drum sander and I just run my board through it and let the key chains fall off in a coffee can. I have also sanded them with my orbit sander it work just as well.

Are you running those on the Carvewright? Thought Steve Good only did scroll saw work. If you are how are you making these, please explain how you do these. Thanks

Hey Jerry
go to the web site in 1 post. Download the program "Scroll Saw Keychain Pattern Maker" about center page you will see the name "Steve" in the example and the down loadable program is just below it.
Steps:
1 download program and install it.
2 load the program and then just exit it." This is what set up the fonts to make the key chain.
3 load designer
4 select new in designer
5 for dimension I set mine up as follow.
A - length = 24, width = 2.5, thickness .250, and of course designer will give you a prompt telling you the minimums, I select OK and leave it at .250.
B - select "Text" and then select "outline" It will not work in raster or centerline.
C - Go through the font list and find "scroll saw"
D - hit the "." key this will be the start.
E - Type in a name
F - Hit the "/" key this will be the end. Now keep reading these instructions.
G - If you want to keep adding more key chain names for the same board just hit the "=" and it will make a space for the next name. Then repeat "D through G"
Hope this helps. I am working on a font that will place tabs to hold the individual key chain names. The only way I could get it to cut out the key chain without breaking bits is using the procedure as stated in the 1st post. what ever thickness you decide to use be sure to leave at least .020 for simplicity if you have a thickness of .250 then set you cut depth to .230. This is a GREAT Thing for the CW.... I am going to try to do them bigger out of Cast Acrylic and place them on LED bases.... Will use double stick tape for the Acrylic.

I have two laptops - it works on one and not the other.
Laptop 1 works
Acer Aspireone - Windows 7 - Designer 1.170

Laptop 2 doesn't work - The fonts do not show up
HP Pavillion - Windows 7 - Designer 1.176

Any clues? Can fonts be moved from one computer to the other?

Thank you Lon, I will give that a try. I do get email almost everyday from Steve since I do scroll saw work also.

I have not upgraded to windows 7 yet. Try this:
1 - open up your computer folder on the HP.
2 - Click or double click on the windows folder
3- click on fonts folder and scroll through and see if you can see "scrollsaw" or similar name. If it not their then I suggest you un-install and do a re-install. If that dose not work let me know and I will find a solution for you.

Did all of that and no change. The fonts are not there.

EDIT: Copied the three fonts from laptop 1 to laptop 2 and it is now working. For some reason the install of the keychain program did not install the fonts on laptop 2.

Well I am back in the VA hospital again. I had my left knee replaced about 2 months ago, And have nothing but problems with it. I am at the ST Louis VA. At least I have INTERNET here. They thank I have a blood clot, going for scan in just a few. Anyhow, I will be working on the Key chain font, and sense I do not have access to my CW I am looking for volunteers to do some testing for me. Any takers?

Hi Lon,

Had both of my knees replaced in the last nine months. Not at the same time (11 weeks apart). I will be away for a couple of days but would be glad to do some testing for you when I return on Wednesday. What kind of testing do you want done?
