There seems to be a lot of flex in the head. http://lh6.ggpht.com/_y9YyqBjrgSc/TOhQQFgByVI/AAAAAAAAALM/1ruEPq0Ovq4/s912/IMG00169-20101120-1646.jpg
Does this look like a normal carving. Should that star be that bad?

When you say "a lot of flex in the head" are you talking about the z-truck or the QC/bit?

You carving does not look normal....

In the ztruck. I am able to grab the cable from the top and the bit will move upto 1/4 back and forth easily. It appears that the bearings can wiggle too easily on the z-truck. Is there anyway to adjust this? Replace that black plastic piece that the bearings ride on.

Click on this link for all of the maintenance documents. There is one for the Z-truck replacement that includes the bearing adjustment.

Bet you find one of the metal damper rings that goes around the lower bearing.......

Still have a QC? Rock or CT is better....

Sorry you appear to be using terms that I am not familiar with.

The QC is the Quick Connect, the standard issue bit holding chuck... With 3 ball bearings holding the bit in place.... The ball bearings jack hammer into the bit holders making a hole and let the bit flop around.... Any BB marks in the bit holders?

The CT is the CarveTite the LHR replacement to the QC. You need special bits with pressed on holders to use it. Do research by using the search and " " on each side of the search "term".

If you grab the bit tip and pull in 4 directions does it move very much?

I have ordered the wrench. I just have the QC there is less than 20 hours time on this CW so far so no dents in the bit holders yet.
Plan on ordering the Carvetight but with Christmas here it is going to be a while.

Yes the bit time moves a lot but it is not moving in the chuck the whole z-truck is moving so it looks like IO need to adjust the bearings.
