This is probably old news to many of us..but I thought the new owners might like to know that even without the really cool text feature just offered, you can still do pretty neat stuff with the existing text tools.
Here's one you can play with:

Create a carve region and make some text to put in the center. Select "raster" as the method of carve. Once you like what you have, select the text block and copy it and then paste it. You should now have two versions of the text you typed. Ok...select one of them and reopen your text tool by double clicking on the text...change from raster to outline.

Next, select the text that you left as "raster" and give it a large draft. Now overlay the second text (outline) over the first (raster). You can play with the depth setting on the outline to get some cool effects.

Great tip! No I did not know or think about trying that. It does give a nice looks to the text..
