Hey Guys,
I am moving my workshop around and insulating slowly finally. While I am doing that I am wanting to get my dust collector hose off of the ground out of the way. I have a 20x20 "L" shaped workshop ( see pic). I am wanting the machine in one spot and the collection unit around the corner. Can anyone tell me what size pvc pipe to get? I would like to have all of my other tools plumb for but dont really need to do that right now, just the CW. I have read so many different formulas and opinions about it and am seeing crosseyed. I believe the dust collector has a 4" input. This is my dust collector

The more I look into the subject of ducting my workshop, the more confused/overwhelmed I get.

My son's an engineer - don't ask him to design a system, it'll cost about $10,000 :)

Here's a place to start - even though you're not interested in a cyclone system, this site's got tons of info re size of pipe, layout, etc.

I too am interested in the responses you'll get from your post.

If you go with Pvc pipe use 4"
But watch out for Static Electric Charges Building up so make sure every thing is grounded!

I liked using the 4" flex tubing and Fitting from Rockler for my shop -- plus it was easy to install and ground.

When you plan your placement of the CW and the DC, avoid 90 degree turns.
As stated earlier, "flex" hose is a good choice to the CW.
My attachment shows how I might re-locate the CW just a bit so that I avoid one turn/corner.
I suspend my flex from the ceiling, and drop both ends down to the units as I use the machine. Just place a gate at the CD to close the port when the CW is not in use.

Here is a link to a Shopsmith "teaching" site that may come in handy. The video is corny, but good!

Remember that gentle curves create less resistance than 90 degree turns (even if the run is a bit longer).

Thanks everyone for the responses so far.
I do have the plastic 4" see through 10' or so hoses that I purchased with the DC.
Askbud I must have been reading your mind, before I read these responses I just installed a standalone outlet right exactly where you mapped me for that placement of the cw.
I have the materials to start insulating just this wall on wed or Thursday, plus just got first shipment of corian in to play with, then my daughter is turning 1 on Wednesday so not sure if i can get out there then or not.
