Here is a sign I completed recently. Where it gets mounted sure makes a difference.

I used pine boards glued up and lightly burned the wood then stained it. I removed the excess stain on the surface with thinner. Sealed the wood with Minwax helmsman spar urethane.

I really do appreciate ALL the wonderful comments!! The the sign is 14.5" X 25". The carving time was 6 hours and a few hours for prep and painting.
