Just recently rebuilt a door frame and used a substitute wood made of PVC -- no rotting anymore. It is expensive and comes in regular wood sizes 1x8's etc.

The thought occured to me whether anyone has experienced carving with this medium and what were the results?

Dabbled with it a while back, based on LittleRedWoodshop's earlier experiences. Also appears that Al "who?" makes use of it. See http://forum.carvewright.com/showthread.php?14764-exacting-measurements&highlight=slide+rule. Based on my limited experience, all the cuts were tight after removing the fuzzies with a blade and sandpaper. Finishing was easy. The dust and shavings are somewhat of a nuisance to clean, but worth the trade off if you're looking for a material that produces clean cutting lines...
