I have about 80 hours on my machine and it has started to give me inconsistent carvings mostly in the Y axis. You can see in the picture that it is pretty ragged. Any ideas on how to fix this? Is it as simple as getting the CarveTight?

Welcome to the Forum! Is the bit loose in the QC? If so time to upgrade.

It has been getting looser over the past couple weeks even though the red lines are matched up. I knew that was a problem but didn't know if that was the whole problem.

Quick find, you never want a loose bit to much bad can happen.

You might want to check the roller bearings on the "Y" and "Z" Trucks,
If one or more of them is loosening up, that also can cause a little bit wobble
that shows up in the carve path quality.

Spindle bearings could be an issue too, but much less likely than Ken or Lees suggestions.

Just ordered the CarveTight. Hopefully that will solve everything!

There ya go then, that should most likely cover it.

I think you will be glad you have a new chuck.

I think I found the problem...The bit collar was significantly dimpled. I replaced with a new one and I'm back to carving again. Will be nice to have the CarveTight so both my machines will have it.

Good thing you ordered the CT - your QC is trashed - watch the carving, the new adapter will get "dimpled" as well in short order, and as it does, the bit will wobble to a degree, and lessen, to completely ruin, the carve quality of your project.
