Hot cable

What would cause the cable to get so hot that it melted the black hose around it?

This is something that has been stated in all kinds of ways - the flex shaft needs to be lubed! There are instructions in the manual and many posts here on the forum about the best methods and materials.

I also had kinked the spring inside the flex and when I started a carve the metal to metal caused the rubber to catch on fire and melt.
