quick release chuck

can't get the chuck to recieve carving bit even after cleaning and lubricating the chuck.won't lock bit in place it almost seems like it won't let it go up into the chuck far enough to engage the taper.

Make sure your setscrews on the bit adapters have not backed out some. You can also try "slingshotting" the chuck a time or two, Pull it up as far as it goes, and let it snap down. Put a rag down under it, you would be suprised what gets lodged up there...

The advice that I got from LHR when I had this same problem was to tap around the sides of the chuck with a screwdriver handle. As Craig said, you'll be surprised at the amount of stuff that falls out.
