What do you guys use when you need to test a new technique, font, etc? I have a lot of MDF, does that carve well. Well enough to tell me if something will look good in real wood?

Mdf is perfect! It hold the carves better than a lot of other choices. The down side is that it is dusty.

I just test it out on the real project then I swear a lot and throw it in the wood stove.
