if you registered the software license for the probe, it's yours forever as LHR does not allow the transfer of licenses for the software (which costs the same as the software+probe package).

I have a probe that I have never used. I think that I will use it someday and be glad I have it, but for now, I haven't even tried it once.

True, the software license cannot be transferred, however, it might be a good purchase for someone who already owns a probe and wants to have a spare on hand.
