I am carving trail markers on 2 x 6 cedar using centerline text and 90 degree bit. The first sign (my very first centerline project) was excellent . The text on the second sign came out with varying width. The verticals on the first letters are 1/2 inch wide and later letters are 1/4 inch wide. As far as I can tell the board is of even thickness and not warped. Is something slipping?

It sounds as if the bit may have slipped in the adapter.

I think you nailed it. I had the bit out just before beginning the project. I carefully checked this time, and the sign carved perfectly. Thanks.
