One of my interests in a Carvewright would be for pattern making. Can the machine "thru cut" say 1/2 MDF? If so do you need to attach the piece to a sacrificial table first to prevent damage to the table and or bit??
The machine looks like it has amazing potential.

You can put a piece under it but its not needed. The bit is on a track in the left right direction and there is a slot on the bottom of the machine so the bit should not hit anything.

Thanks Aaron for the reply. Never having seen one in person I didn't understand how it actually works...

you can use it both ways.
If you use a sled tack the cutout pieces to the sled with double stick tape or nails away from the cutline.
If you do not use a sled it will leave tabs you will have to cut off by hand.
It's called autojig or manual jig option.
