Looks really nice Brandon..

I have wondered whether the bodies are completely hollow, or are they solid with sections milled out for the electronics from the back?... I have wondered this since you have started showing them.

Thanks for sharing!

Dang - I should have taken violin lessons when I was a kid! I'm tempted to find a tutor every time I see your gorgeous violins! If I could play, I'd buy one in a second. Approximately how much do those baby's go for, LG?

Thanks guys!

the violins are all hollow using my 3D pattern cut inside and outside keeping about .125 overall thickness. I do not show the insides much as i have some sound bars adjustments added in Designer that i like to keep incognito but basically a 16.3 oz.finished violin.

I am always amazed when seeing your artwork. Is the "sunset red" a stain or what exactly. Would you be willing to go into a little more detail regarding the finishing of your projects? Also, Would you be willing to discuss how you get those beautiful round scroll thingies (sorry for my technical terms). Keep the wonderful work coming.

LG, You continue to blow me away with your skills... Incredible...

Question: do you just keep creating these instruments, then selling, or are all of these built to order?

I am amassed each and every time I see your beautiful creations, You and some other artisans’ have inspired me to go ahead with the 14th Century Citole project I have been researching and designing for about a year now, just finished with 8 hours of carving with the fret board, tail piece and sound board left to go, it is your attention to perfection that I am working to achieve, Thank You for that.

Man, I like that so much it stings.
The finish on those is just awesome....and there's something about the shape that suggests the sound it makes, which is frakking cool!

Beautifully done LiquidGuitars. I have never heard an elctric violin played, but I can only imagine the tone must be as beautiful and rich as your craftsmanship Sir. So pleasing to the eye.

Fair winds,

some info on the finish setup i use..

off the carvright i take the wood and hit it with 80 grit, then i use water to wet down the wood to raise the carving lines, let dry. hand sand the wood with 80 150 and 320.

I use aniline yellow dye with alcohol and brush on the stain, then i spray a very thin coat of lacquer to set the wood grain " optional".
After the sealer coat is dry i use 3 or 4 coats of violin varnish sand with 320 to level after the coats are dry. the next step is to tint the top coats with trans cherry red and a drop of blue mixed in few coats of high quality lacquer.

Regarding the 3D neck, i use a quad modeling approach that I worked out just for the scroll.

Nice looking fiddles LG...... oops I mean violins.

Stunning work as always.

The maple one made me think how cool it would look with a spalted maple body. But at that thickness it wouldn't work well to use half rotten wood. Although you could stabilize it, but I suppose that would change the sound quality.

Even though I'm not a Luthier, I'm inspired none the less. Keep posting and giving us all a standard to strive for.

Things have been going well with the instrument builds, last month I decided to add some carving " with the help of the free patterns" on the violin, here is a picture:

I also got my instruments in a prominent electric violin shop in NC.

Thanks guys!

regarding the finish the small shops and big shop guitar builders where in a bit of a jam over the last 6 months as Laurence mc faddens lacquer went out of bis Taylor guitars even helped keep the co. going for a bit.
rumor is the formula has been acquired buy a co called Seagraves and it is the bomb! I have never used a lacquer so nice and clear and recommend it to anyone building instruments.. liquid gold!

http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Finishing_supplies/Finishes_and_solvents/Seagrave_Nitrocellulose_Spraying_Lacquers/Seagrave_Nitrocellulose_Spraying_Lacquer.html

Michale,

I am still looking for the sanding disks on ebay so i have not had a chance to use them but used the cheep min flap sander, one thing that i recommend for the raised detail is the 3M sanding pad that's 3x5x1 180 grit it also works well with the sanding sealer...
