Hi all. I'm a newbie here, and I've learned a ton from this forum. You guys are great. I've already (successfully) carved several lithopanes using the cutting boards from Lowes. Success was due to the advice I gleaned from your shared experiences. I really look forward to getting my hands on some Corian.
Anyway, on the off chance that no one else has already done this, I thought I'd share this idea for a sled. It helps combat the problem of the cutting boards curling up under the heat of carving.
I used 3/4 Baltic birch for the sled and 1/4 BB for the removeable hold-downs on the edges. I rabbetted the edges of the hold downs and the cutting board. When you attach the hold-downs to the sled the stock is then trapped flat and carves like a dream.
I've also found the rabbetted edge of the finished litho is easy to mount in a frame since it's just 1/8" thick. A singe saw kerf makes the perfect slot in the frame for the litho.
