Hello,

I just broke my 1/8 cutting bit. Do you guys recommend buying it online here at CarveWright or do you have other thoughts?

Thanks for the tips,
Bart

Hi Bart,
I offer the 1/8" bits in 2 lengths. 3/4" and 1"... If you are mainly cutting 3/4 or thinner stock, the shorter tool is a good bit stronger, as you can choke up on it a little more. Keep in mind that the machine cuts .07 deeper than the bottom of the board. Most people are having good success at taking 3 depths of cuts..

You can find the bits on my website at www.cw-parts.com Keep in mind that if you are using the Rock chuck you will need a 1/8 sleeve, and if you are using the QC, you will need a 1/8 bit adapter for my bits. Both are also available on the website.

Thanks for any interest you may have...

Ron

Stick with the tapered 1/4 shaft, from CW or NorthernTool.
I went with the sleeves for 1/8 and 1/16 and they all broke on
the cross-grain cuts.
I tried fishtails with upcut, they worked well for large area removeal,
but the smaller areas turned out fuzzie, too much sanding.

If you want the bit from LHR, it is considerably cheaper on Amazon

Has anyone tried the solid carbide end mills from http://www.sgstool.com/ ? They are a local company here in Ohio and many of the shops I've worked in (machine shops) use their tooling. They seem to last long using them on steel and alum. , so I would think they would be good on wood. They carry all sorts of carbide tools. Just my 2cents worth.

Guess I spoke too fast, I was referring to the bits only. Not the chuck.
I don't remember who I got the bits from, I still have a receipt somewhere.

Just found it, got them from Tinker & Tinker,
bout $55 lesson.

Gary,
Thanks for clearing this up... I have had many many emails from people expressing their satisfaction with the 1/8 cutout bits that I sell, stating that they are working better for them.

I appreciate your comments!

Ron

Hi Jason,
I am only offering it in a 1/8 shank, but 2 lengths... 3/4 and 1"... The 3/4 is quite a bit stronger because you can choke up on it more.

I do have 1/8 QC bit adapters, and 1/8 Rock sleeves for either size of the Rock Chuck...

Thanks for your interest!

Ron
