View Full Version : Help with simple(?) pattern
How do I carve a section of a shpere into a board? I want to end up with a circular region that looks like you had pressed a baseball partway into it.

Hi Lobo,
Are you looking for something like this?
The mpc shows the Grouped Recess made,
and the the PTN pattern I saved from it.
How to:
Make a Circular Carve Region the size you want,
and use the Select Surface Menu to use Double Dome.
Next use the Invert button, and also select the depth you want
If you can, keep the feathering at”0”, and if necessary you can make the Dent,
Normal, Subtractive, or Additive.
To save it as a PTN pattern just Group your work, select all,
and the Save as Pattern Icon button will light up.
Yep, that's exactly what I'm trying to make. How did you create the dent? It seems like everything I try gives the region either a rounded bottom, but with straight sides, or the curved sides, but with flat bottom. I can't seem to figure out how to "raise the curved bottom up" till it meets the top of the board.

Ken,
Thanks, that did it. (Also, I had to do as you suggested and change the merge mode to additive.)
Thanks a lot!

Na not me -- Maybe just Blabber Mouth or Pest would be more like it. http://forum.carvewright.com/images/icons/icon11.gif
Ps. Remember that you can stretch or squash the Circle in to an Oval,
by using the "Yellow" mid-points on the patterns perimeter (wider-thinner taller-shorter)
But no flipping or rotation that's a different process.
