You must format the card via the PC and then place it in the carver.

The manual has nothing about "won't turn on"

Are you sure you are inserting the card in the machine all the way? Lets hope it is still something simple.

does anything happen? if the card wasn't being read, you'd get one line empty and one line solid on the display.

I have the card pushed in all the way in fact its hard to get my fingers in there to pull it out. Nothing on the display at all. Its like no power at all. and yes I checked the plug on the wall and no extension cord.

Try this: turn the machine off, unplug the card, turn the machine back on and play with the contrast. If you don't see a row of solid blocks in the top row then you have a power problem. There were a few reports over the last couple of years of the push on connectors on the back of the power switch coming loose in shipping. You can unplug the machine and set it on its side, pull out the 12 screws on the bottom and see if you find anything loose.

I would also suggest giving tech support a call.

Yeeeeeppp found it!!!!
I took the bottom off and found the plug to the card reader not connected.
Now it powers on.

quality control. no way did it unplug from shipping unless it wasn't plugged all the way in to begin with.

Or they could take cue from several computer manufacturers. I see a lot of 'computer connections' that get a dab of hot glue on the outside of the connectors to make sure they dont work free during shipping. Works like a charm but doesnt impede a technician from unmating the connectors during service.

Got it from Sear.com it is a recondition one. Plus its missing the bit removal tool. Now they want me to send it back because its missing the tool and alan wrench. I can't seem to get through to them to just send the tool. I have been on the phone for over an hour to sears and was given just about every 800 #s

I have reconditioned units, well one now.

DO NOT bother with Sears. Just call LHR, they helped me with no problem for a few issues.

Just register the unit at the CarveWright web site first, then call LHR and they will find you by last name. Have your serial number handy though.

Its worth a shot.
