Cuts outside the board demensions?

Still learning the software before I get my machine.... Is the software smart enough to ignore anything that passes outside the dimensions of the work piece? I've attached an example. I need to make a 18" dome, and would have to do it in 4 pieces..

yes, the machine ignores anything that is off te actual project board.

And with a cut path like a Oval, it will lift the bit in the area of the brass roller and leave wood and not cut the brass roller.
