I have some very nice Elm boards...
Does anyone know what would come out nice, as a finish for Elm?
I'd like to bring out the natural color of the wood, without staining it.
Maybe a natural oil?
Also, has anyone tried carving Elm yet? Looks like it would work very nicely...

I think Danish Oil or tung oil would either on work with the elm. And bot of them make the grain pop.

Flood with BLO to make the grain pop, several coats of shellac, and then some paste wax. A lot will depend on the project and your ability to get the shellac/wax into the product (especially an intricate carving).

BLO = Boiled Linseed Oil :)

Sorry, been away from the computer to actually get some work done for a change. C6Craig is exactly right. Just really wipe on a huge amount of BLO and let it sit. After a few hours of soaking wipe off the excess, let it sit over night and wipe off the excess again.
