View Full Version : Tip for "rough" Z-axis movement

My Z axis was getting a bit "crunchy". Not serious your-belt-screws-are-loose crunchy, but just a bit of hesitation in one spot when moving up and down.

I believe that a previous incident where I broke a bit in hard Mahogany caused it. I disassembled the Z-truck and found that the metal rods on which the z-truck rides up and down had very small dents in them. The fix was very easy - remove the rods and rotate them 180 degrees so that the dents no touched the z-truck at all.

This very obvious fix wasn't very obvious to me before I opened up the machine. Perhaps it will be useful for someone else.

Great tip, and I will check this on my machines... question remains as to the cause!

Cool, I was just looking at mine last week. The rails can get some chatter, but not sure if spinning them will help or not, you could need to order a new set..
