I'm probably about to take the plunge and one of my potential projects is to use the CW for photos. Does anyone have a pic of a photo routed in wood?
Thanks

There was a descriptive thread about importing images here:

A carving of a photo is pictured in this thread:

The short answer is that photos do not always look so great due to the fact that there is no way to get 3D information from a photograph. However, they look fantastic in polycarbonate plastic, due to the way back-light filters through the translucent material (see image below).

Right now we are working on some pattern editor features for blending images with simple 3D doming to produce reasonable results in wood for a photograph. Results will vary by picture.

Again, this is in back-lit plastic, not wood:

The picture in polycarbonate is stunning. What thickness of polycarbonate was used for this image?

Kudos to the person who created that!

I believe the polycarbonate thickness was 0.25", and the carving depth was about 0.1".

Was that a clear polycarbonate sheet or frosted?

It was just a white polycarbonate.

Do you leave the protective surface on both sides of the polycarbonate when carving or just the bottom? Mike

Hey guys I was just wondering when you carve in corian or poly and back light it which material requires back lit or do both and if so what method is used to light and what wattage bulb. I'm trying to create images like the one posted on the carvewright site
