Well, here is the next part of the Group awards board I'm working on. I finished up this piece this afternoon and hope to start working on the picture holders next week.

The carve is a hair over 12 inches wide and took 3 and change hours to complete
Thanks for looking
Lawrence

ps- the attached file is one that I've cleaned up even further, with extra space in the A's and e's so there is less break out and I cleaned the overall image up a bit more as well.

Well, I'm almost done with this monster.... (whew)
My Chief gave some inputs-- he wanted smaller picture holders and just "55 ECG" Here is what I've ended up with so far

The plane did not look right stained, so I gave a go at painting.... well at least I know where my talents are NOT! No DaVinci here, but it'll do....

The individual picture holders are for 4x6 photos and have the award engraved on the wood. The picture holders themselves are acrylic u-shaped thingys that cost like a buck each and are stuck on with double sided tape. The award winner's name and squadron is printed on the individual photos

All the pictures/photo holders are to be attached with screws/keyhole slots. I've already cut all the keyhole slots out-- had a bit break on me in the process (ZING!!! POW!!!... check for holes... ok all's good, whew)
The ply edging is oak and is chamfered similarly to the flag cases I make
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u313/ldr_klr/DSCF0063Small-4.jpg It is held on with a 3/8 rebate glued and pin nailed.

I still need to finish the ply and edging, measure and affix the mounting screws and then bring it into work. I plan to anchor the board to the wall with screws hidden behind the pictures.

I'm glad to almost have this monster done.... it has taken much more time than I anticipated-- 9+ hours in carving on the carvewright, 5+ hours of design, 3 hours shopping, 1 hour transit, 3+ hours material prep/sanding, 3+ hours painting/finishing and I'm not done yet!... suddenly the day and a half I took off of work to do this doesn't seem like such a good deal Oh well, I've learned a LOT about sketchup/my carvewright, my incra router jig, keyhole bit usage, etc... and had fun in the process. Hopefully my next pic will be of it hanging in place.
Thanks for looking
Lawrence
