Isn't that supposed to be 5.56 caliber? I thought 7.62 was for M60

I was working on both signs at the same time - we'll see how many people notice that, in person. Glad that's a sample...... I make me laugh. Thanks for pointing that out....

It is actually an M16A1 also. Big difference between the M16, the A1, A2, A3, and the M4. Sorry, 24 years in the U.S. Army Infantry. Can't tell, is the rifle carved out of wood also or is that a mock weapon (rubber duck)?

I've been out for a long time. I thought one of the major differences in A1 and A2 was the flash suppressor on the barrel? Again, maybe I've been out too long (19yrs). I do remember the 7.62 rounds being used in the M60 machine gun. Guess all that's changed by now.

Nope, your right about the caliber difference (5.56mm for M16 series, 7.62 for the M60 and M240 machine gun and a few others). Major differences between the M16 and its succesors is the flash suppresor, Rear sight, Hand guards, and fire select switch (M16A2 and later do not have full auto they have burst).

Does the M16 A2 have the forward assist or just the AR15's?

Yes they have the forward assist. For those Army folks out there they know the way to clear a jam or misfire is SPORTS. Slap the magazine, Pull back on the charging handle, Observe the chamber, Release the charging handle, Tap the forward assist, and Squeeze the trigger.

positive comments..... or just an M16 debate. By the way - it is carved out of wood not a mock weapon.

Jason,

Sorry about that. I think the project turned out excellent. Can't wait to see the bluegill finished as well. Good Job

Yep it is suppose to be 5.56, and it's the M16A1 ( 20 years in the military)

You better believe that the next will be right and that one is getting burnt this weekend - more designer firewood..... was good practice tough.

Jason,

Why not just correct it by carving the letters with lower profile? To nice to burn.

Sorry, more of an M16 discussion. I think it turned out great. Would make a great farewell gift for a Soldier leaving the Army or a unit.
