Merging borders and patterns

I am trying to create an .mpc of of picture frame consisting of mergin a rope border and a horse pattern. I've been working on this for a couple of days but can't figure out how to do a cut path around the inside of the frame to include the horse.

You have to have a cut out area exactly the shape of the inside of your frame - any depth but deeper is better. now select that area and the horse and under tools select outline, then go back to tools and select cut path. I had the same hang-up a couple of weeks ago.
