well, this was my first project (not a practice on scrap) with my carvewright. I used the CW to create a negative space in the cherry and then painted it and ran the board through my planer for the reveal. The coaster holder is also cherry with itty bitty dovetails created on an incra router table jig. It is a birthday present for a friend who is an eagles fan (lifetime steelers fan here) Finish is rude and crude followed by a couple of coats of wipe on poly. The bottoms of the coasters are cork.

Thanks for looking

thanks for the comments all, just wanted to add in a picture of the card LOML made to go with the coasters... the eagle, numbers, and letters were made with a cricut cnc paper cutting machine

the cricut is an awesome machine once you get the "sure cuts a lot" add on... once you get used to using inkscape, the sky's the limit as to what you can cut out... I used cricut stencils to paint scorpions on picnic tables at work (our squadron symbol is the scorpion) and did my test painting on my table saw sled

If you like the cricut, your should take a look at the klic-n-kuts. I had mentioned also had a computer controlled vinyl/paper/chipboard cutter in another pot.
