I need some patterns to use for cutouts. They will be signs for the children's area at our church.
The cutout shapes are: ark (Noah's Ark), star, whale and lamb.

I also need a sun shape for a different room in a school.

Any help is appreciated...even sites where you can get free clipart.

Thanks!!

Why not start at Church, and get some of the children's coloring books and hand-outs. Scan what you want and then convert to patterns using Connected Lines and such. A connected line, along the perimeter, could be your cut-out.

You could, also, design some Stain Glass type signs.

I am missing something ... I found a clipart picture, made a pattern, but when I place it on my board I cannot outline the pattern...

... I can only outline a square around the pattern ???

The reason its only outlining a square is because the software is picking up on the images background. You will need to remove the background first using an external photo editing software, save it as a PNG file, and then import it into the software.

OK ... but I don't have photo editing software ( I don't think I do anyway) ... I'll do some checking ...

Here is a free one you can use to take care of your backgrounds. Also in the same forum is another link that shows tutorials on how to use GIMP.

Frank,
Try this:
1) Right click in an empty portion of the TOOL BAR and select "Customize".
2) Use the "Drop-down" and go to the "selection Toolbar" section.
3) Now, add the Wand to your menu and click OK.

Once you have gotten to the step where you have it as a pattern on the screen you are expecting to have the designer outline it automatically.....

I don't think if you delete the background it will work then either.... Could be wrong... But at that point what I would do is make the pattern as big as I can by making a 14 inch wide board in designer and making the pattern 13 inches high.

Then using the Line tool and connect a line tool hand draw the pattern adding extra nodes in complicated areas. Don't worry about being PERFECT now, just use a bunch of nodes to get the shape and the most important step is being sure that the last node connects to the first node. Then press ESC on the keypad to turn off the connect line function.

Make sure as you add nodes that the new and old node lights as it connects. If any node is not connected then the cut path will not work. So if Cut Path will not work, look at each node by moving it... A unconnected node will move away from a un connected bottom node.

You then can go around and move the nodes to refine you pattern.

Once you get it where you want it, you can select CUT PATH and it will work if all the nodes are connected and it will apply tabs.

Scale it down and your all set... Making it BIG just makes it easier to get a good quality manual trace.

When you inmport an image, you have the choice of importing from a file or from the clipboard. If you copied the design to your puter, just choose "from file" and navigate to the file. Double click on the file and it will import into Designer. If you right-click on a file, choose copy, and then use the import function, you would use the "from clipboard" option to import into Designer. Hope this helps.
