Here is my tank project from start to finish. I started by slicing up the STL's. (This is actually made from about 3 tank models, kinda Frankentank) I carved the body and treads outta poplar.

Assembled and primed. I carved the turret in HDU and inserted a dowel for the cannon.

Did some painting last night. This ended up being a really fun little project. I've been wanting to grime up something and paint it to be worn and dirty. I will probably do more on this. Kind of a test canvas.

Folks aren't gonna believe that's carved out of wood!

They'll think you're an artiste (that's French, y'know:mrgreen:)

That’s really nice. What bit did you use to carve it to get all that detail? Your machine is truly in the hands of an artist.

Well thank you. Very kind words. The STL software and the machine did most of the work. I just sit there and grin while it carves!

I use the regular 1/16" carving bit on all my carves. The details are in the pattern. That STL importer and the new 16bit format really make great patterns.
