I need to lube the cable and was wondering if 3-in-one spray white lithium grease is ok to use.

I wouldn't advise it,
Liquid Wrench, Gunk Chain lube with Molly is recommended by CW
and some folks are using Crane's Cam lube with Molly with success.

I would highly recommend Crane's Cam lube with Molly. It goes on easily and without a mess, lasts a long time (fewer applications) and it, in combination with a new Rock chuck, gives me very little heat on the flex cable.
