I know these are the same machine with different branding, but I was wondering if this is the appropriate forum for a CompuCarve owner or if they are separate.

Also, anyone who has ordered from Sears, did you get the Protection Plan, and if so, was it worth it? I am planning on buying one this weekend and the $300 for a 5-year plan seemed like a good investment even though I tend to shy away from these sorts of things.

Same machine, Same forum and my opinion is that the service plan from Sears IS A GOOD THING and GOOD INVESTMENT..
I wish I had it but since I have the CarveWright it was not offered when I bought it.

Hope this helps..

I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. If only they offered it for the reconditioned units:)

I'm guessing that you are satisfied with their service.

Mine is from Sears, waited almost the whole first year watching & listening. Saw what parts cost + labor after the warranty ran out, added in the shipping and decided the Sears extended was my best bet. Never bought one on any tool or appliance before, always felt I could fix it cheaper. Now starting into second year of extended warrantry which cost me $500+ at the time, only 2 problems but cost of materials alone have exceeded my cost, but I have to say I'm probably an exception based on forum posts. Sears initially was a big problem as posted here, they have come a long way in the learning curve. The only thing I have found a problem is they promise a unrealistic return time from the east coast due to shipping time. I actually got a call from their tech questioning the modification I had done to the cover for use with my vacuum system and if I wanted a new lid.
Guess that is what insurance is about, sometimes you win, sometimes the seller.

I include this statement (in RED) on the Trouble letter that I include in the box, when I take my unit to Sear's for repair:
The "Cover" is not a problem. It is a development modification for a Dust Collector. Those of us on the Forum are developing a way to vacuum the dust so we eliminate dust & chips as a source of trouble.

Will a CarveWright branded scanning probe work on a CompuCarve? Amazon has the CW ~$100 cheaper than sears

The probe is the same.
The real caution is that the probe needs the "Licensed" software. I'm not sure you will get the license from an Amizon purchase.
CW sells the package for $299.99 here:

Sears has the Probe for $313 and it has no shipping. if sent to your nearest store.

Bud,

As long as the merchant is Amazon it OK because they are a official dealer for LHR.

Bud,

As long as the merchant is Amazon it OK because they are a official dealer for LHR.

It is sold by Amazon and it says that it includes the pattern editing software (is that the software for bringing in the scanned data?)

I have found Amazon to be great to deal with. Free Shipping Saver and if there is a problem with the item they will pay to return merchandise by sending you a prepaid label. Can't beat that.

I would buy from Amazon (as the direct merchant) any day over Sears. Rob

I would also agree that as long as it states "sold and shipped by Amazon", you have nothing to fear. I have bought several high $ items directly from amazon ($2000+). Excellent service both pre and post sale.
