Hello ajk
Nice to see you back at it. from your picture of the sail boat you have this may not be what you are looking for If you can use feel free I zipped up the png file so that you can play with it in photo shop it does need some work but I have other things going on for now and have to put this on the back burner.
Note you will need ver. 1.152 for MPC.
Good day ~Ray

I've been trying to get a heightmap out of sketchup. Does anyone know a good way to do this?

which sketshup you have

1-you choose export
2-2d
then comes as png.

that just gives you an image. A heightmap is a greyscale image whether the level of grey describes the height of the 3d object at that point. This is what Designer uses to determine what to carve from imported images

ajk,
I think if you changed the colors of your image to different dark grays and black in sketch-up, then exported as png it would come out better. The two tone colors are causing it to come out bad. You will end up with a 2D carve not 3D.
